Running of the Meeting

A typical meeting is divided into two parts:

The first part is reserved for Table Topics – short impromptu speeches (1 – 1.5 minutes) – and their evaluation.

The second part of the meeting is reserved for 2 – 3 prepared speeches, followed by their evaluations.

London Corinthians is affiliated to Toastmasters International and we use Toastmasters’ tried and tested education programme to develop our speaking skills.

At the meetings there is no formal instructor who teaches you how to speak in public. Instead we learn by doing. We also learn from each other by giving evaluations so we can learn what we did well and how we can improve.

In addition to giving speeches, at the meetings members also take on a number of different roles:

  • The Toastmaster
  • The Table Topics Master
  • The Grammarian
  • The Timekeeper
  • The Table Topics Evaluator and Speech Evaluator

The roles enable members to develop confidence when speaking in front of an audience, try different speaking styles and develop their leadership skills. They also ensure the meetings run smoothly.
